Looking Up

Psalm 57:10-11

Great is your love. It reaches to the heavens.

Your truth reaches to the skies.

God, may you be honored above the heavens.

Let your glory be over the whole earth.

For this, I’m grateful.

I’m a cloud watcher. Maybe because growing up on a farm it was what we did. Every part of our lives revolved around the weather. Rolling hills to the east hosted the sunrise each morning. The hills behind, to the west, welcomed the sun each evening.

Flying gives a whole different meaning to cloud watching. Ascending through the low hanging clouds on a rainy day, passing through the bottoms of them and emerging into the sunny and clear skies above is one of my favorite things.

God’s love reaches to the heavens. His truth to the skies.

Love and truth.

Somehow we often miss how connected they are.

God’s word constantly draws us upward. His love lifts us up – I can imagine somedays His hand reaching down and lifting my chin – reminding me to keep my eyes on the heavens above and His promises.

And when I focus on that, my response is to honor Him. To glorify Him.

So even though much of my life on this earth has been looking up at the clouds, I believe there is so much more to this existence than what my human body experiences.

The expanse of God’s love for us, the vast reach it has into the universe beyond what we can see and the comfort we can know when we realize this, makes our journey here more exciting.

to the heavens

to the skies

above the heavens

over the whole earth

Today, I will watch the clouds because that’s what I always do.

As I remember these words of scripture, a new level of appreciation unfolds in me and I will remember the creator of them all.

“Lord, please lift my chin to the glory of Your creation above. Keep me focused on the bigger picture above the skies and over the whole earth. We love You, Lord. Amen”

Janet
