Days 13 & 14 Winding Down in Venice

Day 13 & 14 Winding Down in Venice

We arrived in port early in the morning, went through the process of disembarking and said goodbye to the rest of our travel buddies. Lynne and I boarded the water taxi heading back to our hotel in Venice.

Quickly dropping our bags, we let the hotel know we had arrived and headed back to our water taxi who had graciously waited for us.

Our previous day in Murano had not satisfied us and we wanted to go back and explore at a more leisurely pace. If you have ever been, you understand and if you haven’t, it pulls you in like a magnet and holds you captive in the most delightful way. Store front after store front calls out “come in and see what delightful treasures we have waiting for you”!

Even the street scenes are most remarkable.

Sometimes it’s easy to walk away and other times, it isn’t and you find yourself asking if they ship to the US. Yes, I succumbed. I can’t wait to show my grandkids the treasures I found. Glass has always intrigued me and watching the artisans work their artistic interpretations with it is magnificent.

Being in the presence of so much history, art and life made my heart happy.

We went on to the delightful island of  Burano.

This island is well known for their lace work and we were not disappointed. The rows of colorful houses also greeted us as we walked around another corner.

We finally headed back to the hotel, arriving about 7 pm. We headed to our favorite little place for dinner  and to an early bed time.

Our final goodbye to the canals of Venice the next morning didn’t disappoint. One last glance back at the good memories created and packed to carry home.

And a final goodbye to the guardians of the city who met me on that first morning.

Saying goodbye to Lynne was bittersweet with our “see you later” words. No need to say goodbye – right?

I finally arrived back in Nola several hours delayed. Immediately my glasses  fogged up and I couldn’t see – it was after midnight.

“Welcome home Janet”, I  heard my hometown Nola whisper and laugh. “Happy August.”
