The Scent of Water

Job 14:7-9

“For there is hope for a tree,

if it be cut down, that it will sprout again,

and that its shoots will not cease.

Though its root grow old in the earth,

and its stump die in the soil,

yet at the scent of water it will bud

and put out branches like a young plant.

When I read this scripture, look at this picture and consider the amazing cycle of life God designed for this earth, I am humbled to be a part of His creation.

I have felt and seen the old, tired and eroded roots of me.

The roots I had sent out were seeking life source from things of the world. Those roots failed me. Yet, as the psalmist writes above, when our roots experience the scent of water, the love of God, we discover there is still life in us.

There is a newness of hope when the source of our existence breathes in the love of Christ.

In my youth, I would never have been able to comprehend the enormity of this scripture. In my sixties, it has become my lifeline.

Christ’s love for me is eternal.

The old will lose its hold on me and my roots will be strong in His love.

Rest in that today. Ponder how God is waiting to provide the water to nourish your soul. Choose to grow your roots into the hope of our eternal lives with Him.

Janet
