Like A Butterfly

And there it was… the gentle reminder of the creator I serve and worship.

Grace and patience paced her journey.

The butterfly floated by on the soft breeze moving across the water.

The boat continued down the river in the opposite direction. In a few minutes, I lost sight of her.

Briefly, in that moment, I marveled at the mystery of how different our journeys are. Yet God created each of us, for a purpose.

I remember what I know of her journey. She wasn’t always the beauty I saw today. She started out as a tiny egg and became a caterpillar crawling on her belly.

One day, she slowed down, spun a cocoon, hung from a branch and waited as time passed. When the time was right, she burst forth, spread her wings, patiently hesitating as they stretched, dried and strengthened.

Taking flight, her newfound beauty graced the earth.

I am still a caterpillar working my way to the day I will become like a butterfly, fully developed into the perfect beauty God desires for me.

Although traveling in different directions created for different purposes, both the butterfly and I have the opportunity to reflect the glorious beauty of God’s creation.

Somehow, I think it is easier for her.

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
