Deep Love In This Season

Wow. Less than two weeks until Christmas! What a beautiful time of year. Ten years ago we had snow here in our south Louisiana. Many of us have a perfect image of what Christmas is supposed to look like. Me – it would include snow, hot cider, hot chocolate and Christmas caroling. And snowmen, snow angels, sled riding and bonfires. Lots of friends and family.

There is something distasteful about the word “perfect”. I have spent way too much energy, time and money – futile energy, time and money – to achieve perfection – only to let myself down and only feel the failure – any hope of joy slipping through my fingers.

Tonight – I think about the people who have no one to share the ideals and dreams of Christmas.

No visions of sugarplums. No hot chocolate or Christmas caroling.

No anticipation of memories to be made.

Counting the days until Christmas has passed.

But the one thing I grasp onto and hold onto for dear life – Jesus came for everyone of us.

And that is what I hold onto – fiercely.

The hope of a life beyond the physical world we live in. The hope of eternity with the baby Jesus sent by God the Father. Our Father. Our hope – come to earth.

The sweetness of this outweighs a million gallons of hot chocolate.

The memories bring us a warmth of blessings. The physical world and the spiritual world collided and brought us a savior.

I rejoice in the depth of God’s love for each human who walks this earth.

Now – that’s perfect.

To Him be the glory – forever.
