Directional Challenges

Hebrews 6:19

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul,

a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.

Every day as our feet hit the floor, we are headed somewhere to do something and will be engaged in life until our head hits the pillow that night.

How do we fill our days? Do we get so distracted by the busyness of life that we forget how important it is to have a plan that is bigger than the day to day?

Boats remind me how much we need to set our life on a course that will carry us to our destination. No one gets on a boat and says “let’s see what happens next”.

Yet many of us live our lives like that. A little wind from the west and we are pushed to the east. A storm from the south and we end up off course far to the north. A dead wind and we stall, floating aimlessly with the tide.

A while back I decided my life had one purpose. Just one. That decision to live my life focused on God and who He is in my world, decompartmentalized and defragged much of the chaos in my life.

I don’t get pulled off course so easily. My life isn’t at the mercy of what’s happening around me as much any more. At times – absolutely my world gets rocked. Just like the boat in storms. But the one thing that changed – my intention to keep my focus on God’s presence in my life.

As you set your course decide who or what is your anchor because you are going to need a solid one. Choose your destination carefully. Plot your course with great care.

“Lord, guide us today. Teach us to rely on You as the one and only tour guide on our journey through life on this earth. We praise You no matter what threatens to drive us off course. We count on Your presence and Your loving hand. In Jesus’ name, Amen”
